This edition focuses on America’s response to the uprising in Egypt and the implications for Israel. Due to its importance, this post will be longer than usual.

OUR ISRAELI CONNECTION

Israel on High Alert
Sharon Sanders of Christian Friends of Israel reports that a “shaking of the nations” is taking place. Now more than ever, wisdom and understanding of the times is imperative lest we be found sleeping at our posts. With a revolution taking place at this very time in Egypt against President Hosni Mubarak, a planned revolt in Jordan this coming weekend, the fall of Tunisia and Lebanon, tomorrow could be Saudi Arabia.

Needless to say, Israel has four borders, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan and Egypt. Turkey has backed away from any cooperation with Israel. It is speculated that Iran has sent a fleet of warships into the Red Sea and through the Suez Canal taking up positions around Israel’s western shores (The Golden Report, 29/1/2011). With Iran and Iraq also playing with explosive fuses, whose hand will strike the match? Yesterday’s Jerusalem Post headlines read: “Muslim Brotherhood: Prepare Egyptians for War Against Israel”, (Jerusalem Post, 02/01/2011, Yaakov Lappin).  A huge outbreak of war could quickly descend upon the borders of the Promised Land of the Chosen People.  If we are serious about our love for Israel and our love for all of mankind, we should not rest until God sees the seriousness of our commitment and concern for the “apple of His eye” (Zechariah 12:8).

While Israel’s very existence is being threatened, here in America, Republican Senator Rand Paul has called for the elimination of further financial aid to Israel as a solution to our financial woes. According to the God of the Bible, this is the last thing we should consider if we want God to bless us.

Another Carter Moment?
We just don”t seem to learn. With our response to the crisis in Egypt, we are repeating the mistakes of the Carter Administration during the Iranian Revolution. We are throwing our ally under the bus in an attempt to appease a group that we have totally misjudged. While the Iranians hated the Shah, they equally hated America for the way it bailed on a friend. Instead of appeasing the masses, we turned them further against us. We should be listening to those who really understand what”s going on over there-our Israeli friends. Keep reading to learn what they think about our response.

IT’S NEWS TO ME

Omaba and Media Get it Wrong
The U.S. media and the Obama administration are portraying those involved in the Egyptian uprising as young democracy-seeking citizens who are simply protesting the scarcity of jobs and opportunities, as well as the repression of the Mubarak regime, which consists of corrupt and tyrannical old men. It’s time for a reality check. According to a Pew opinion survey of Egyptians from June 2010, 59 percent said they back the Islamists. Only 27% said they back the modernizers. Half of Egyptians support Hamas. Thirty percent support Hizbullah and 20% support al Qaida. Moreover, 95% of them would welcome Islamic influence over their politics, and the Islam they support is clearly the al Qaida Salafist version. That”s the one that supports violent jihad. Their ultimate goal is world domination. We should be more concerned about the character and beliefs of those in the streets than the vices of the government.

The motivations of the protestors are also clear. They have attacked Mubarak and his new Vice President Omar Suleiman as American puppets and Zionist agents. They think Israel, whom they want to destroy, controls U.S. foreign policy. The Obama administration and the vast majority of the American press fail to understand that if the Mubarak regime falls, it will not be replaced with a liberal democracy. Mubarak’s military authoritarianism will be replaced by Islamic totalitarianism. America’s greatest Arab ally will become its greatest enemy. Israel’s peace partner will again become its gravest foe.

Obama Supports Muslim Brotherhood
The major player here is the Muslim Brotherhood whose stated mission is: “Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. The Qur’an is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope.” Its express purpose: (1) to implement shariah worldwide, and (2) to re-establish the global Islamic State (caliphate). This sounds frighteningly similar to the mission and goal of al Qaeda. Yet, in the face of all the evidence, we’ve learned through an article in the Los Angeles Times that the Obama administration says it “supports a role for such groups as the Muslim Brotherhood in a reformed Egyptian government.” White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said that a reformed government “has to include a whole host of important non-secular actors that give Egypt a strong chance to continue to be a stable and reliable partner.”

Are you kidding me? Stable and reliable partner? This is lunacy of the highest order. This has the making of the worst foreign policy blunder in U.S. history. Currently, the leading contender to replace Mubarak is Mohamed ElBaradei, who is anti-Israel, has ties to and is a defender of both the Ahmadinejad regime and the Muslim Brotherhood. I wouldn’t be surprised to hear that he has gained the official support of the Obama administration. The Muslim Brotherhood may comprise a minority in Egypt, but we must never underestimate its power and influence. As soon as it took an active role in the uprising, everything changed. That’s when things turned violent. Chants escalated to burning buildings, looting, and overturning cars. This is the true face of the Brotherhood.

Islam and Democracy Don’t Mix
The Obama administration continues to naively believe that we can reason with these people. The Bush administration naively believed that an exposure to democracy would make them prefer it. The problem with Obama’s approach is that Muslim leaders consistently lie and take advantage of what their enemy has accepted as true. The problem with Bush’s approach is that Islam and democracy are like oil and water. To Muslims, democracy is blasphemous. Only the will of Allah is to be followed. Period.

To Muslims, words like “democracy” and “election” mean strategies to topple secular regimes. Once they gain control, the next step is to kill your opponents. Look at what happened during the Iranian Revolution in 1979. After the demonstrators (many of whom were not Islamists) toppled the government and the Shah left the country, Khomeini used secular Muslim Iranians such as Abulhassan Bani Sader and others for his own purposes. But once he became established, he killed all the “freedom-lovers” and “democracy-seekers.”

Remember when President George W. Bush successfully pressured the Palestinians to establish free elections? Hamas won the election, took control, and immediately  “eliminated” their opponents preventing another election until they were finally pushed out of the West Bank into Gaza. What’s happening in Gaza today is precisely what could happen in Egypt if the Hamas-friendly Muslim Brotherhood of Egypt comes to power. It will not only spell disaster to the West and to Israel, but also to the Christians and the secular Muslims in the region. Many leaders in Israel believe that the naïveté of the Obama administration may help bring about this disaster sooner than anyone could have imagined. Personally, I’m not sure if Obama”s approach represents naïveté, or if he knows exactly what will happen.

Israeli Leaders Criticize Obama
On Monday, a number of Israeli politicians, pundits and former security officials began airing their criticism of Obama. Deputy Minister for Galilee and Negev Development Ayoub Kara (Likud) told visiting former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee that Obama needed to understand that “supporting the masses carrying out a revolution in Egypt is like support for the Muslim Brotherhood which is likely to take Mubarak’s place.” Kara told Huckabee he was “disappointed by Obama”s turning his back” on Mubarak. Kara said that while it was clear Obama wanted to see democracy established in the Middle East, “anyone with eyes in his head sees that there is no worthy alternative now to Mubarak, and those pushing the masses toward revolution are the Muslim Brotherhood.”

Yediot Aharonot columnist Eitan Haber, a top aide to Yitzhak Rabin, believes that this sends a dreadful message to Israel. Obama threw Mubarak “to the dogs,” Haber wrote in a column that appeared on Monday. “America, which waves the banner of “citizens rights,” “democracy,” and “freedom of information,” turned its back in a day on one of its most important allies in the Middle East. Obama sold Mubarak for the pot of lentils of popularity among the Egyptian masses,” Haber wrote, adding that the U.S. President did this without a true understanding of the Middle East. “Our conclusion in Israel needs to be that the man sitting in the White House is liable to “sell” us over night.

Still Not Convinced?
If, for some reason, you still think I’m blowing this “threat” way our of proportion, consider what Muslim cleric Sheik Anjem Choudary said to Sean Hannity on Wednesday. “Egypt will be ruled by Sharia law and eventually the United States – and the whole world – will fall to radical Islam.” He also called for the destruction of Israel, saying the Jewish state needs to be “repelled” for what it has done to Muslims. “Sharia will come and it will remove the corruption of democracy, and freedom, and all of your exploitation,” Choudary said. “You are worried because you know Islam is coming to your backyard.”

Now, are you convinced?

Finally, to see how God will respond to the threats against Israel, read Isaiah 41:8-16. Israel will suffer losses, but God will preserve her. Unless we in America change course, we can no longer expect God to protect or preserve us.
