27. UN may criminalize the gospel

This issue exposes the UN's latest anti-Semitic proclamation and its efforts to criminalize spreading the gospel, revisits the 1983 Marine base bombing in Beirut, explains why war with Iran may be close, and revisits a writing tip for using objective pronouns properly.

OUR ISRAELI CONNECTION

One Jerusalem reports
The Lebanese Daily Star is reporting that “occupied Jerusalem” has been appointed by UNESCO [a United Nations agency] to be the “Arab Culture Capital 2009.” “Jerusalem was chosen by UNESCO and the Arab League this year …for its unrivaled contribution to Arab culture, despite Israeli protestations that the holy city is its own.” The coordinator of these celebratory events is quoted as saying, “What we are doing with the events is highlighting the Palestinian cause.”

Of course Israel does not claim that Jerusalem is holy only to Jews. And unlike under Arab jurisdiction, the Jewish State allows

freedom of religion to the point where Christians and Muslims control their own Holy sites. When the Arabs controlled Jerusalem, Christians were limited in their access to their Holy sites and Jews were banished from the Old City completely. The Jewish quarter was destroyed and many Jews were killed by Arabs. Tombstones from the great cemetery on the Mount of Olives were used as latrines.

UNESCO, which is charged with preserving historic sites, should be protesting the Muslim campaign to rid the Temple Mount of archaeological evidence that Solomon's Temple existed. Their destruction of precious materials on the Temple Mount is greater than the Taliban destroying the Buddhas in Afghanistan. But while the world condemned the Taliban destruction, the world is silent when the Muslims destroy Jewish and Christian History.

IT’S NEWS TO ME

Joel Rosenberg reports
At 6:25 local time on the morning of October 23, 1983, agents of the ayatollah used a suicide bomber to plow a truck filled with explosives into the U.S. Marines barracks in Beirut, Lebanon.
The attack resulted in “the largest non-nuclear explosion that had ever been detonated on the face of the Earth,” according to a U.S. federal court judge who found the Islamic Republic of Iran guilty of perpetrating the crime. Locked doors on a building nearly three hundred feet away were ripped off their hinges. All the trees in the surrounding area were stripped online casino completely bare of their leaves. The windows in the control tower at Beirut's international airport were blown out. And the four-story cement and steel Marine facility collapsed into fifteen feet of rubble, ash, and smoke.

Jay Seculow [ACLJ] reports
Speaking out against Islam could put YOU in jeopardy. Sounds ridiculous, but it's true. The United Nations (U.N.) is currently considering a ''Defamation of Religions'' resolution being pushed by the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), the largest group of nations within the U.N. The resolution would criminalize the proclamation of the Gospel worldwide – an issue with such international ramifications, we've responded with force. We're sending legal teams to our New York City office, which is just down the street from the U.N., in order to speak out – and loudly – against this very anti-Christian move.

The Jerusalem Prayer Team reports
We may be closer to a showdown with Iran than most people think. Here's the most recent news:

The Pentagon is speeding up delivery of a colossal bomb designed to destroy hidden weapons bunkers buried underground and shielded by 10,000 pounds (4,535 kilograms) of reinforced concrete. Call it Plan B for dealing with Iran, which recently revealed a long-suspected nuclear site deep inside a mountain near the holy city of Qom. The 15-ton behemoth – called the “Massive Ordnance Penetrator,” or MOP – will be the largest non-nuclear bomb in the US arsenal and carry 5,300 pounds (2,400 kilograms) of explosives. Pentagon officials acknowledge that the new bomb is intended to blow up fortified sites like those used by Iran and North Korea for their nuclear programs, but they deny there is a specific target in mind.

WRITING TIPS

Objective Pronouns
I've written this before, but I see this mistake so often that I'm repeating it.

After prepositions (with, for, after, etc.) always use the objective form of pronouns (me, him, them) instead of the subjective (I, he, they), even when used together with other nouns or pronouns.

Wrong:
Please pray for he and his wife at this difficult time.
(You wouldn't say “Please pray for he at this difficult time,” so adding his wife doesn't change the pronoun.

Correct:
Please pray for him and his wife at this difficult time.

In these tough economic times, here's a great money-making idea. Round up 25 female pigs and 25 male deer and put them in a pen.  Before you know it you'll have fifty sows and bucks.
