Retraction: From time to time my normally reliable sources let me down by “endorsing” something that turns out to be false or a hoax. Apparently, such is the case with last Saturday’s “Hillary Blackface photo. I will always let you know if something I have posted falls into this category.

SETTING OUR MINDS ON THINGS ABOVE

The more we follow the news, the harder is becomes to be joyful. That is to be expected if we let our circumstances determinejoy free 1 our outlook. Jesus, although He was called a “man of sorrows,” lived in perfect joy. Obviously, he knew something we don’t. He knew where to find true lasting joy, and it had nothing to do with His circumstances. His joy came from His absolute submission to His Father and from his complete denial of Himself and sacrifice of Himself in His quest to do the will of His Father. In His own words, “I delight to do Thy will.”

This is exactly the same kind of joy Jesus wants for us, right here in the middle of a world that seems to be falling apart. When we understand that it is actually falling into place, just as the Lord has planned, we can submit ourselves to God, knowing that everything He allows into our lives is filtered through His love, and His perfect will. In John 17 Jesus prayed that we would have the same relationship with the Father that He had with Him. It was that oneness that gave Jesus His joy. His joy came from a relationship based on love and complete submission.

We need to cultivate this kind of relationship with our Lord now more than ever, and we need each other to help us stay the course. If we can find joy in our relationship with our Father even when things get harder than we think we can bear, we’ll know that God’s purpose for our trials has not been in vain.
