SETTING OUR MINDS ON THINGS ABOVE

Keep Watching and Praying

Keep watching and praying, that you may not come into
temptation; the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.
MARK 14:38

I just watched Juan Williams on Fox News say that President Trump’s historic pro-life speech at the Right to Life Rally in Washington D.C. was dangerous for America. That pretty well sums up what rational God-fearing people are up against in this country these days. The UN is demanding we let in those poor “climate refugees.” Iran inches closer to a nuclear weapon. Israel’s enemies are becoming even more bold. The deadly Coronavirus is mutating and spreading, and the impeachment circus continues. Never a dull moment these days. Clearly our world needs our prayers.

Sometimes our prayers just flow, but often, prayer is work. You don’t feel like praying. Distractions are incessant. Your thoughts wander. Your flesh is demanding to be fulfilled. Maybe all you feel like doing is sleeping, but you can hear God’s still, small voice drawing you to come to Him in prayer. These are the times when we must persevere. If the opposition is this strong, something important is at stake. We must pray. It is at times like these that God is calling us to watch and keep watching, to pray and keep on praying no matter what.

Jesus was facing the most horrible ordeal one could possibly imagine. His entire life on earth had led to this moment. He knew what He had to do, and He knew Satan would stop at nothing to defeat Him. Jesus was about to experience both the wrath and abandonment of His Father and the demonic rage and fury of Satan. If there was ever a time when He needed the prayers of His disciples, this was it. If there was ever a time for the comfort and companionship of those He had poured His life into for the past three years, this was it. Yet, He found them sleeping.

When has Jesus asked you to watch and pray? How did you respond? Have you never heard Him make this request? Surely, He has, but have you heard Him? Are you listening for His voice? Jesus is looking for those He can count on at any time, under any circumstances. When He awakens you in the middle of the night, are you listening for His voice? Are you willing to pray and keep praying for the one He places on your mind and heart? Is He calling you to pray over something you read in this post?

Are you willing to be someone Jesus can depend on to carry out His mission by praying His will into existence? Many times, He won’t act until His people pray, even if they don’t feel like it. Will you be one of those people?

ON THE LIGHTER SIDE

A wise man’s heart directs him toward the right, but a foolish man’s heart directs him toward the left–Ecclesiastes 10:2
