Shariah: A reincarnation of détente from the 70s?

IT’S WORTH CONSIDERING

Shariah: A Very Real Threat

Back in the 70s the U.S. engaged in a relationship with the Soviet Union that became known as détente. Superficially, it began a period of mutual cooperation between the two superpowers. However, when a commission was formed to investigate the “behind the scenes” reality, a totally different assessment emerged. Despite all the public overtures of friendship, the Soviets were in fact proceeding with their plans to defeat the United States and her allies and to work towards a worldwide triumph of Soviet Communism. Despite the breakup of the Soviet Union, the plan is still in effect despite the public rhetoric of Vladimir Putin. What we have seen is a long-range strategy of misinformation in order to lull the U.S. to sleep regarding the very real threat.

While that threat continues, today we face an even more insidious ideological threat: the totalitarian socio-political Islamic doctrine called shariah. Translated as “the path,” shariah is a comprehensive legal and political framework. While it has spiritual elements, it would be a huge mistake to view it as a religious code in the western sense because it is a means to regulate all manner of behavior in the secular sphere—economic, social, military, legal and political.

 AS I SEE IT

Shariah is today’s version of détente. The tactic is basically the same—disguise your true intentions with words of cooperation and mutual understanding. It is promoted by Muslims as a basic element of their religion in the hopes that they can convince us that it falls within our protections of religious freedom. In reality, it’s being used as part of the Muslim Brotherhood’s strategy of “civilization jihad,” sabotaging our “miserable house” from within. Some of our lawmakers get it. Most don’t. The process is referred to by many as
“creeping shariah” because it creeps into unsuspecting societies in a way that is illustrated by the story of the Camel and the Arab.

Among Muslim activists there are two basic camps—the reformers/moderates and the Muslim supremacists/Islamists. Shariah can be seen as the fault line between the two. The first group espouses a separation between the spiritual and secular elements of Islam. They see shariah as a reference point for a Muslim’s personal conduct, not a body of truth to be imposed on society. The second group seeks to impost a totalitarian regime: a global system cloaked as an Islamic State and called a caliphate. To these more radical Muslims, shariah is seen as an Immutable, compulsory system that Muslims are obliged to install and the world required to adopt. Failure to do so is considered a damnable offense against Allah. Adherents see the West as an obstacle to be overcome, never a civilization to be embraced or even tolerated. In their minds, it is impossible for alternate legal systems and forms of government to ever peacefully co-exist.

This is the first in a series of articles I will be writing on this subject. They will be interspersed among my “faith” articles so we can maintain a spiritually healthy point of view and not get too wrapped up in the details of a demonic system that falls under the sovereignty of Almighty God.
