OUR ISRAELI CONNECTION

News from the Israel Project
The weekend terrorist attack in Sinai has made clear that Egypt needs to preserve a strategic alliance with Israel to face a common enemy, namely al-Qaeda and other terrorists groups anxious to attack and destabilize both countries. Suspected Islamists on Sunday evening attacked an Egyptian checkpoint, killed 15 Egyptian soldiers, then stole two of their vehicles and tried to storm the fence at the Kerem Shalom crossing into Israel with the apparent goal of kidnapping an Israeli soldier or civilians. The men loaded the truck with explosives and blew it up. Israeli planes scrambled and took out the armored vehicle and Israeli troops killed six or seven more of the attackers as they fled.

The situation in Sinai creates a dilemma for Egypt’s newly-elected President Mohamed Morsi. On one hand, Morsi comes out of a Muslim Brotherhood political tradition of deep hostility to Israel. He recently said he did not want there to be an impression of cooperation with Israel; nor did he want to strengthen security ties because Egyptian public opinion was opposed to this. On the other, the reality is that Israel presents no strategic threat to Egypt and could be an important strategic ally. As Sunday’s attack makes clear, the real threat comes from al-Qaeda and other jihadists. Read more.

To the north, Israeli security services have foiled a dangerous plot masterminded by Iran-backed Hezbollah to smuggle explosives from Lebanon into Israel to set off a series of bomb attacks. Eleven suspects were formally charged in a Nazareth court on Wednesday. They were arrested last month but the case was kept secret until now. Read all about it.

Iran announced more military buildup as the Islamic Republic continues to defy U.N. resolutions and international sanctions aimed at stopping its attempt to reach nuclear weapons capability. Defense officials in Tehran said this weekend they upgraded Mig-29 fighter jets and successfully fired a guided missile that “can hit and destroy both land and sea targets.” This is a thinly veiled threat against American Navy aircraft carriers patrolling the waters in the area that the head of the Iranian navy dismissed as “nothing more than rusty iron.” Read more.

Obama’s College Classmate: ‘The Obama Scandal Is at Columbia’
Townhall.com reports: Why are the college records, of a 51-year-old President of the United States, so important to keep secret? I think I know the answer. If anyone should have questions about Obama’s record at Columbia University, it’s me. We both graduated (according to Obama) Columbia University, Class of ’83. We were both (according to Obama) Pre-Law and Political Science majors. And I thought I knew most everyone at Columbia. I certainly thought I’d heard of all of my fellow Political Science majors. But not Obama (or as he was known then- Barry Soetoro). I never met him. Never saw him. Never even heard of him. And none of the classmates that I knew at Columbia has ever met him, saw him, or heard of him. Read more.

Top NY Homeland Security Cop Sues Napolitano; Alleges Obama DHS Officials’ Anti-Straight Discrimination, Demands for Oral Sex – “J-No Appointed Lesbian Girlfriend, ICE Chief of Staff Harassed Male Agents”
Debbie Schlussel reports: New York’s top Department of Homeland Security cop is suing Department of Homeland Security Chief Janet Napolitano in an explosive but heretofore unnoticed federal lawsuit alleging Homeland Security employment discrimination against straight male agents by Napolitano (READ the federal complaint) in favor of her lesbian girlfriend and sexual harassment of male agents by Napolitano’s handpicked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Chief of Staff, Suzanne Barr. The lawsuit alleges that Barr demanded a male ICE Special Agent engage in oral sex with her and that she relocated three top male ICE agents’ offices to the men’s bathroom at ICE headquarters. All of the alleged misconduct was the behavior of Barack Obama’s hand-picked people running the Department of Homeland Security, who’ve created a hostile work environment for straight male agents, a story I recently broke on this site. Terrorist Freed After Obama Admin Denies Gitmo Entrance
Judicial Watch reports that Hezbollah commander Ali Mussa Daqduq, who tortured and killed 5 U.S. soldiers in Iraq and was detained by U.S. forces in early 2007, will be freed by an Iraqi court-the inevitable, and predictable, result of an Obama administration decision to hand him over to Iraqi authorities rather than bring him to Guantanamo Bay.
