Muslims in our Government: Keith Ellison
IT’S WORTH CONSIDERING
With this post, I begin a series informing you about some of the Muslims who now hold key positions in our government.

Keith Maurice Ellison (aka Keith Hakim, Keith X Ellison, Muhammad Ellison) converted to Islam at age 19, while at Wayne State University and later enrolled at the University of Minnesota Lawkeith-ellison-ok School. In 2002 he was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives (as a Democrat) and was re-elected two years later. In 2006 he won a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Minnesota’s fifth District. He won re-election in 2008 and 2010.

He is known for having been the first U.S. official representative to be sworn in with his hand on a Qur’an instead of a Bible. He also received notoriety for having survived numerous reprimands from the Minnesota State Campaign Finance and Public Disclosure Board for unreported contributions, mis-classified disbursements, and inaccurate cash balances. He also survived two lawsuits by the Minnesota state attorney general. His most notable legislative “accomplishment” was having co-sponsored Rep. Dennis Kucinich’s bill to impeach Republican Vice President Dick Cheney for “high crimes and misdemeanors”; the bill charged that Cheney had “purposefully manipulated [pre-Iraq War] intelligence” and had “fabricated a threat of weapons of mass destruction.” Not surprisingly, he strongly endorsed the 2008 presidential campaign of Barack Obama, praising the senator’s “unifying spirit” as well as his “message of an open and fair economy, a balanced prosperity and clear opposition to the war in Iraq.”

His anti-American views, which he has expressed openly and often, are perhaps best seen in his comments at a “Network of Spiritual Progressives” event in early 2011, where he derided what he saw as America’s traditional means of conducting foreign policy:

“Diplomatically, we have got to understand that it’s not about imposing will upon countries through economic warfare, like all these sanctions that we’re so fond of. Equity has got to be how we interact with the rest of the world. And I’m telling you that many of the problems that we are facing today find their roots in colonial relationships that are fundamentally premised on inequity. And the reactions from people of what we used to refer to as the Third World. … Much of what we are seeing is a reaction to historic colonial relationships and neocolonial relationships.”

AS I SEE IT
You can learn a lot about a person by watching who he hangs out with and supports. It explains Barack Obama and it explains Keith Ellison. Perhaps the most telling relationship is his solid tie to Louis Farrakhan’s Nation of Islam. On their behalf, he demanded reparations for slavery and said that African Americans should be offered the option of settling in an all-black, geographically self-contained, separate “homeland” if they wished. He has often acted as an advocate for the group and defended its spokesman and black supremacist Khalid Abdul Muhammad. When Muhammad had delivered a scathing rebuke at a University of Minnesota rally against America’s racism, Ellison stood at his side.

A large portion of his campaign contributions came from national and state officials of CAIR (Council on American-Islamic Relations) (what a surprise!). He has also been the featured speaker for the Muslim American Society and the Islamic Circle of North America, and has been honored by the American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee with its Trailblazer Award for his “career of advocacy focused on promoting civil and human rights, peace, and prosperity for working families.”

You can also draw some conclusions about his “obligations to his country” when you learn that Ellison failed to pay all or part of his income taxes in five separate years from 1992 to 2000. As a result, the IRS placed liens on his home, forcing him to pay some $25,000 in back taxes. He also ignored fines that he had incurred for parking tickets and moving violations so numerous that his driver’s license was repeatedly suspended. He also chose (back in 1992) to publicly defend Sharif Willis, a convicted murderer and ex-convict who had become the leader of Minneapolis’ violent Vice Lords gang.

This is who the people in Minnesota’s Fifth District have elected and re-elected to represent them. Click here to learn more about Keith Ellison.

Here’s a note from a retired U.S. Marine who is challenging Ellison:
Dear Fellow American,
I’m frustrated by the stubborn politicians in Washington who have lost sight of their purpose. But I wouldn’t question the patriotism of any of them-except my opponent, Keith Ellison. Since getting elected in 2006, Ellison has lobbied against our fundamental American values at every turn. He voted to cut funding for our troops, attacked the Pledge of Allegiance, teamed up with Barney Frank to undermine the free market, and argued against having the word “God” in the Democrats’ official platform. Now he’s focusing his anger on Republicans. Ellison recently accused the GOP is “a bigoted party” in a Mother Jones article. There’s no doubt about it. Keith Ellison is militantly anti-America.

As a retired U.S. Marine who served in Iraq in 2007, I will not tolerate this type of blatant disrespect for America. That’s why I’m challenging Keith Ellison and his despicable agenda. It’s going to be an uphill battle, but with 21 years in the Marine Corps under my belt, I’m up for the challenge. Keith Ellison is a loose cannon who will do and say whatever he wants with no regard to the consequences. He does not care that his toxic rhetoric is bad for America at this decisive time in our history-as long as it furthers his selfish political agenda. We can’t allow Ellison continue his anti-America antics.

The way I see it, the sooner Keith Ellison is thrown out of Washington, the better. That’s why I’m in this race and why I’m urgently asking for your support. If you love America and agree that our elected officials should as well, please follow this link to donate $25, $50, $100 or more to my campaign today.

Thank you in advance for your support.
