News from the Israel Project
Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood-linked President was forced to flee from the Presidential palace yesterday, as thousands of demonstrators battled with police in the area. A deepening crisis in political legitimacy, triggered by a power grab under which Morsi reserved for himself sweeping powers and exacerbated by the rushed approval of a draft constitution by Egypt’s Islamist-dominated constitutional assembly, has brought together a broad alliance of young liberals, judges, human rights groups, and Mubarak loyalists in opposition to Morsi. Protesters walked six-and-a-half miles between Tahrir Square and the palace, highlighting the extent of the public dissatisfaction and endangering Morsi’s efforts to position himself as a reliable statesman.

Reacting to what is now widely seen as a major blunder by Morsi, three advisers to the Muslim Brotherhood-linked President have resigned. The government’s violent crackdown is raising fears that Egypt’s Arab Spring will have succeeded not in liberalizing the country or institutionalizing democracy, but in replacing a Western-oriented relatively secular strongman for an Islamist strongman hostile to the interests of the United States and its allies. Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi is brushing aside calls to rescind a decree under which he reserved for himself sweeping powers and insulated his office from judicial review.

Supporters and opponents of Egyptian leader Mohammed Morsi fought with rocks, firebombs and sticks outside the presidential palace in Cairo on Wednesday in large-scale clashes that marked the worst violence of a deepening crisis over the disputed constitution.

Fears that the Palestinian Authority will use its upgraded status in the United Nations to wage diplomatic warfare against Israel were heightened today by reports that the PA may sue Israel in the International Criminal Court over settlement construction.

A significant majority of Americans are concerned about the rise of the Islamist government of Mohammed Morsi in Egypt, and nearly two-thirds of U.S. voters favor cutting aid to Egypt if the country abrogates its peace agreement with Israel, according to a recent poll conducted by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research on behalf of The Israel Project.

IT’S NEWS TO ME

UN Agenda 21 Treaty Defeated in US Senate
The United States Senate voted down the deceptively titled United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD) treaty on Tuesday by a vote of 61-38. Of course, the fact that all of the 53 Democrats and 8 RINOs (Republicans-In-Name-Only) [Ayotte (NH), Barrasso (WY), Brown (MA), Collins (ME), Lugar (IN), McCain (AZ), Murkowski (AK), Snowe (ME)] in United States Senate who voted to ratify a treaty that would have subordinated the sovereignty of the United States to the United Nations, is a sad sign that we have a great deal of work ahead of us as patriotic Americans seek to take back our nation, but a victory is a victory.

Is Syria about to use Weapons of Mass Destruction against Israel and/or its own People?
Joel Rosenberg reports: “Syria loads chemical weapons into bombs; military awaits Assad’s order,” reads an NBC News headline. A very dangerous situation is worsening by the day. Senior Israeli intelligence sources are now saying the border with Syria could become “the hottest border in Israel” in 2013. We’re currently witnessing the slaughter of more than 40,000 innocent civilians by the bloodthirsty regime in Damascus. U.S., Israeli and Western intelligence agencies increasingly fear the Assad regime will use of weapons of mass destruction against Israel, and/or against their own people, and/or the Assad regime will fall and jihadist forces will gain control of Syria’s stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction and then focus on a War of Annihilation against Israel. New York Times Wakes Up, Admits U.S. Weapons Went to Islamists
Political Outcast reports: It’s hard for most people to deny what’s right in front of them. That hasn’t kept the New York Times from trying.
