Christian love trumps Islamic hatred every time. Here’s an example.
IT’S WORTH CONSIDERING
For those who are paying attention, the outlook for Christians in America is downright scary. The war to protect the “rights” we have taken for granted for so long has begun. We can still worship as we choose in freedom, but I can see a day in the not too distant future when that freedom will be just a memory. It will probably be the best thing that ever happened to the American Church, but that’s a subject for another article. My desire today is to put our waning freedoms in perspective.

When we start feeling sorry for ourselves, we’re often reminded that there are lots of people

worse off than we are. We are prompted to get off our pity pot and count our blessings. Sounds almost biblical, doesn’t it? Well, today, I’d like to focus on what it’s like right now if you’re a Christian in Nigeria, especially in the north. Islam (the religion of peace) has declared outright war on all Christians. Violent attacks by groups like Boko Haram occur regularly. Attackers often sever the legs and arms of their victims with machetes, leaving them not only badly mangled, but without a means to support their families.

AS I SEE IT
Some may be asking where the love of God is when things like this happen. One place it shows up is in the response of ministries and people who care enough for these persecuted believers to do something to help them. One such example is the Voice of the Martyrs, which has established a new one-of-a-kind medical clinic. This special prosthetics lab was established to help those brothers and sisters who had lost limbs in anti-Christian attacks throughout Nigeria. So far, more than a dozen patients have now received their long-awaited prostheses.

Receiving a prosthetic limb greatly brings life and hope back to their lives. “Providing them with mobility will impact not only their own quality of life, but also that of their families,” said one of VOM’s medical workers. “While the bodies of our brothers and sisters in Nigeria may have been broken, the condition of their faith is tremendously strong,” said another VOM worker.

Here is the gospel in action- giving so others can have a better life. Isn’t that why Jesus came? Many Christians in the United States have taken the opportunity to become a part of this unique project, but many more patients are waiting.
