SETTING OUR MINDS ON THINGS ABOVE

Diversity-Our Strength?

Nidal Hasan
“Diversity is our strength” has become the mantra of the left when they try to defend their open borders policy and “inclusivity” at all cost. We learned what that cost was on November 5, 2009 after a Muslim U.S. Army Major and psychiatrist, Nidal Hasan, fatally shot 13 people and injured more than 30 others in the deadliest mass shooting on an American military base. Consider the words of Army Chief of Staff Gen. George Casey three days after what has been called “The Fort Hood Massacre:”
“Our diversity, not only in our Army, but in our country, is a strength. And as horrific as this tragedy was, if our diversity becomes a casualty, I think that’s worse.”
When the leader of our army believes that diversity is more important than protecting the lives of our troops, we’ve got a real problem. The Muslim shrink, an Army Major, who opened fire on U.S. troops did everything but spray paint, “I Am Going to Kill You All” on the wall before he actually carried out his attack. Not only did Hassan put a jihadist abbreviation on his business cards, but he also delivered repeated lectures justifying jihad, accused the soldiers he was supposed to treat of war crimes, and was already being investigated for contacts with Al Qaeda and for defending suicide bombing online. At a time when snow globes are banned at airports and detectors are positioned in every Federal building, a jihadist like Nidal Hassan can openly and freely express his sympathies and affinity for terrorism without retribution. Why? Because he is a Muslim, and diversity is more important that keeping our people safe.
For a new perspective on diversity, let’s look at how and why it was used in the past against God’s people. When the northern ten tribes of Israel were defeated by the Assyrians in 722 B.C., the Assyrian King used a common tactic in those days. Some of the residents were allowed to remain. The rest were dispersed throughout various parts of the Assyrian empire. People from these remote areas were brought in to repopulate the northern part of Israel, bringing their religions and customs with them. This “forced diversity” would prevent any kind of national unity and would guarantee that the religion of the Israelites would soon disappear as it eventually absorbed the foreign practices. This would also guarantee that Israel would always be too weak to ever become a threat.
The tactic accomplished its mission. Israel lost its identity and its spiritual purity (what was left of it). This is why Jews hated the Samaritans. They no longer represented Judaism and were considered a mongrel race. A little over a hundred years later, the Babylonians attempted the same thing after they conquered the remaining two tribes to the south-Judah and Benjamin. Their aim was to take the brightest and best captive in Babylon, where they would be trained in the ways of the Babylonians.
Israel’s fate showed that diversity for diversity’s sake will weaken and eventually destroy nations. The more diverse, the less the country resembles the great nation it once was. While it’s true that the U.S. of A. is a nation of diverse immigrants, historically, they came here to be a part of the great Democratic experiment. They loved what this country had to offer and they wanted to be a part of it. They knew that if they worked hard, they could realize their dreams of becoming a part of something great. They were willing to come legally, even if that meant studying, learning, and enduring what could be a lengthy process because “coming to America” was worth the effort. Knowing that nothing of value comes easy, they were willing to do whatever it took to become an American. Somehow, they found the money they needed to come here legally.
What we’re seeing today is a far cry from this. Most of those trying to enter our country illegally aren’t interested in becoming part of what made America great. They’re coming for what they can get out of it-how they can game the system. Many are clearly coming to destroy America, not to contribute to it. As America loses its identity as a nation of diverse people working toward a common goal, we will lose our heart and soul.
Those on the left have it exactly backward. They think that a nation of millions of people all pursuing their own selfish agendas (regardless of the consequences to the nation) is the best thing that could happen. They actually believe this because that’s the way they see America-as an opportunity to let everybody think and do as they please. This, of course, is the natural result of rejecting God. They don’t want God telling them what to do, and they’re determined to make sure the nation doesn’t have to endure the horrors of obeying the God who holds their destiny in His hands.
Returning to the biblical examples, let’s take a quick look at a new tactic that accomplished the goal, but with totally different means. After Judah’s 70-year captivity in Babylon, something amazing happened. In one evening, the great Babylonian empire fell. Led by King Cyrus, the Medes and the Persians won a stunning victory. Cyrus had read of a prophecy written by the Jewish prophet Isaiah 150 years earlier. The prophecy (Isaiah 44:28) stated that the God of Israel had declared that a Persian King named Cyrus would issue a degree allowing the Jews to return to Jerusalem to rebuild it and to lay the foundations of the new temple.
The pagan king (Cyrus) apparently was so impressed that he was mentioned in an ancient prophecy that he did exactly as it had said. He let them go. Of course, this was also the fulfillment of another prophecy by another prophet-Daniel, whose prophetic words revealed the exact date Israel’s Messiah would appear on the scene. The countdown would begin with Cyrus’s official decree. My point, however, is not the prophecy, but the new tactic. Instead of diversifying the population to keep them in line, he chose to win their loyalty by letting the return to Jerusalem as their God had decreed. He allowed them to maintain their national identity. It was a win-win solution.
America began as a profoundly Christian nation. The idea of our three branches of government came from the Bible. It was the primary textbook and our early schools. What kind of people did that produce? One of our most famous founders, John Quincy Adams, was raised and “schooled” on the Bible. At age 14 he received a congressional diplomatic appointment to the court of Katherine the Great in Russia. I’d say that’s quite an endorsement. The more we “diversify”, the more we lose what made us great. We would do well to remember what happened to Judah at the hand of Cyrus. Once the God of Israel became part of the decision process, diversity as a tactic was abandoned.
