A brief example of how dissimilar Christianity and Islam really are.
IT’S WORTH CONSIDERING

In this article, I’d like to summarize some of the primary differences between the Muslim and the Christian versions of Jesus. This is great information to have when a Muslim tries to stress the similarities between Islam and Christianity.

1. The Bible says that Jesus is the creator of everything, that He is, in fact, God, and that He is eternal. The Qur’an claims that Jesus was a created finite being. God is one, and he will not share his glory. Jesus cannot be God. The biblical descriptions of Jesus as God are seen as corrupted or mistranslated.

2. The Bible says that Jesus is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. He is the ultimate once for all perfect unblemished sacrifice pictured by all the Old Testament sacrifices. Islam denies that one can die for the sins of others. You must pay for your own sins. Jesus, therefore, is not the Lamb of God.

3. The Bible teaches that salvation is only through Jesus, and that there is no other name by which we are saved. No man comes to the Father except through Him. Muslims are saved by their good deeds—their own righteousness by keeping the five pillars. They can never be sure that they have done enough.

4. The Bible says that salvation comes through Christ’s death and resurrection. Jesus said He was not just resurrected, but that He was the resurrection and the life. He was the first fruits of our resurrection. Islam says the Jesus was neither crucified not resurrected. God simply took him into heaven. Someone died on the cross, but it wasn’t Jesus. It was probably Judas. Allah deceived people into believing it was Jesus who died.

5. The Bible says that Jesus is the Son of God, the Word made flesh. The very Word of God, all that He is and all that He wills has been embodied in the God-man Jesus. As a man He could relate to our struggles and could take on our sins. As a man of the tribe of Judah, he could qualify as Israel’s King. Muslims deny that God could ever become a man. He would be degrading himself. Jesus was always a man. He was the product of God having a sexual relationship with Mary. Muslims deny the biblical meaning of God the Son, the uniquely begotten one, not born by normal means.

6. The Bible commands us to worship Jesus. God gave Him a name above every name so that every knee would bow. Jesus accepted all the worship directed at Him. If Jesus was just a prophet, why did He allow His followers to worship Him? To Muslims, only Allah is worthy of worship.

7. The Bible gives Jesus a name above all names as it places Him far above all rule and authority. To Muslims, Jesus’ name signifies nothing more than a prophet. He is, however, listed as one of the top five among the 24,000 prophets.

8. According to the Bible, Jesus, at His Second Coming, destroys the Antichrist, casting him into the Lake of Fire, where he will remain forever. He will pour out a spirit of grace and supplication on the Jewish people, allowing them to see Him for who He is—their Messiah. As such, He will rescue them. Islam teaches that the Second Coming is all about the Mahdi, the Muslim Messiah, who comes riding on a horse. Jesus is alongside the horse, lower than the Mahdi. The Mahdi brings peace. Jesus comes to destroy Christianity and the Jews. He also destroys the cross as a symbol. Muslims connect it with the cruelty leashed upon them by the Crusaders.

9. The Bible speaks of the Marriage Supper of the Lamb when Christ and His Bride, the Church, will become one. This is pictured in the earthly marriage ceremony. Muslims believe that Jesus didn’t die on the cross, and that he will come back to earth to get married and have children.

10. According to the Bible, Jesus is alive forever, holding His priesthood permanently, allowing Him to save forever those who draw near to God through Him. Muslims believe that after Jesus returns to earth, he will live for 40 years, and then die.

AS I SEE IT

If there are any similarities between Islam and Christianity, they are inconsequential. The very real differences reflect the ongoing battle between God and Satan for control of the universe. We know who wins, but we also know that Satan, through the Antichrist, will bring incredible destruction and hatred before he is destroyed. We must be armed with the truth so we can share in the victory.
