According to Revelation, there’s a war to win before the Rapture takes place + weekly news

To Him Who Overcomes

I believe that the Church in America, with a few rare exceptions, is woefully unprepared for what is coming. The enemies are at our doorstep, and we are too preoccupied or oblivious to notice. Too many Christians (and churches) today have had their senses dulled to the truth because they just can’t imagine that the attacks on Christians that regularly occur in other parts of the world will reach the great and mighty US of A. Many have set their hope on being raptured to heaven before anything bad happens to them.

I Will Build My Church

As much as I would like them to be right, I keep returning to Jesus’ clear statement that He would build His Church and the gates of hell would not prevail against it (Mt. 16:18). Building is a process that requires hard work and perseverance. To this Jesus adds another element—warfare. Why would Paul tell us to put on our spiritual armor (Eph. 6:10-18) every day if God’s plan was for us to comfortably coast into heaven? Why did Paul tell Timothy that all those who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will be persecuted (2 Tim. 3:12)?

Jesus’ Messages to the Churches

In Revelation 2 and 3 we find Jesus speaking to today’s churches as He speaks to seven churches in Asia Minor. Throughout these brief letters we find a common message and it’s about the need to overcome. This clearly implies that we will be engaged in many battles and will need very special armor to be victorious. Consider the following:

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give to eat from the tree of life, which is in the midst of the Paradise of God.” (Rev.2:7)

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes shall not be hurt by the second death.”  (Rev 2:11)

“He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it.” (Rev. 2:17)

“And he who overcomes, and keeps My works until the end, to him I will give power over the nations… (Rev. 2:26)

“He who overcomes shall be clothed in white garments, and I will not blot out his name from the Book of Life; but I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. (Rev. 3:5)

“He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he shall go out no more. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God, the New Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God. And I will write on him My new name. (Rev. 3:12)

“To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. (Rev. 3:21)

“He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. (Rev. 21:7).

Overcoming Precedes the Rapture

If you are among those who are counting on being raptured before the warfare starts, I would say, “Open your eyes. The warfare has already begun!” I also want to point out that In the book of Revelation, the Rapture isn’t mentioned (or referred to) until the first two verses of Chapter 4, after the messages to the churches. I’m not trying to scare you. I’m trying to prepare you. Christ has equipped you with everything you will need to be an overcomer. It’s time to get serious about what He requires of us. In the words of Oswald Chambers:

“God doesn’t give us overcoming life; He gives us life as we overcome.”
