In the Eye of the Storm

Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times

This week’s message is a spiritual reminder to keep us focused when we are surrounded by storms. With the impeachment debacle behind us, dark and ominous storm clouds are still covering our nation’s capital, threatening to extinguish the light our nation desperately needs. In the Middle-East, a proposed plan for peace has been met with rage, hatred, and further calls to exterminate the other side. We’ve got a Russian sub patrolling our east coast, and Islamists are conspiring our overthrow right under our noses. Yet, as the last news story above shows, God is still working, undeterred in His plan to grow and prepare the Church through His Son-a Church that will become the Bride of Christ.

To avoid being distracted from what God is doing around us, picture yourself in the eye of a hurricane. Storms are raging all around you, but where you are everything is calm and the sun is shining. This is a picture of biblical faith. Your faith is so strong that you can remain calm while others are in a state of panic. You stand strong because your faith is in One who has proven His faithfulness. Your faith is so strong that nothing can shake you. You have given up basing your life on the way things look. Appearances can be deceiving. Jesus, your faithful Shepherd, has become your reality. Circumstances change, but He is always the same-dependable and faithful to the end.

Without this kind of faith, you can never please God because He desires your devotion more than your service. He wants your trust more than your religious activity. He wants your heart more than your sacrifices. He loves to reward genuine faith. He is a good Father Who loves to give good gifts to His children, especially when they display unwavering faith when storms surround them.

.Living calmly and by faith in the eye of the storm requires a heavenly perspective. If you live by sight, you’ll never see the big picture. You won’t see what God is doing. All you’ll see is what’s in front of your eyes. The greater your faith, the easier it is to see through God’s eyes. If you are living from the position of Christ’s bond-slave, it becomes even easier. Your entire life is only about your Master’s perspective. Your personal agendas have been abandoned. Your entire life is based solely on your faith in your Master.

How’s your faith? Do you walk by faith or by sight? Are you missing out on your Father’s rewards because you really don’t trust Him? Do you spend too much time worrying about how things will turn out? I hope not. The storms will always be there, but you can live in the peaceful eye if you will choose to live by faith-faith in the One who is always faithful.
