Responding to God’s Call

As we navigate through these challenging days, we must make sure we are tuned in to God’s voice. Hearing Him will be essential if we are to join Him in His work around us. Sometimes His words are for us alone, but not always. For example, when Isaiah received his “calling,” God wasn’t speaking directly to him. He was issuing a general plea for all who had ears to hear. Isaiah overheard God asking, “Whom shall I send and who will go for us?” (Isaiah 6:8).

For All to Hear

We mistakenly imagine that the “call of God” is for a select few, but it’s put out there for all to hear. It’s like the Great Commission (Mt. 28:18-19) which was for all who were part of Christ’s Church. Jesus knew that only a select few would hear and respond just as the gate is small and the way is narrow that leads to life and few are those who find it. In the end, it comes down to our own will. It’s not that some were chosen, and some weren’t. It’s that some responded, and some didn’t. We’ve all been given the same opportunities, so it’s time to stop making excuses for our failures and inaction.

Few are Chosen

This is why many are called but few are chosen. We aren’t chosen because of our special abilities. The ones who are chosen are those who have such an intimate relationship with Jesus that their default setting is walking in the Spirit as they allow Him to live His life of obedience to the Father through them. These are the ones who will be constantly tuned in to God’s still, small voice all the time.

While Isaiah didn’t have the indwelling Spirit within him, he had a relationship with God that had him tuned in to God’s voice. We, however, have everything we need. It’s simply a matter of will. Are we willing to say “Yes” to God? Are we willing to offer ourselves to Christ so He can use us to continue His work on earth?

Will You Respond?

Anyone who has become a child of God can be one of God’s chosen ones. Look at what Jesus did with twelve everyday men who responded when Jesus said, “Follow Me.” What Is God saying today? Can you hear His voice? The days that are upon us require leaders who are willing to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Our world needs to see the light of Jesus burning brightly amid the darkness that has come upon us.

Everyone is hurting in some way these days. Many are desperate. They need hope, and God may be asking, “Who will go to them for Me?” Acts of generosity and kindness will stand in stark contrast to the darkness of deception that has settled over our nation, but we are not of the darkness. Will you respond?
