77. Are we in the Last Days?

This edition looks at the biblical meaning of the term “Last Days.”

What are the Last Days?
¬†Most people have heard the terms “last days” and “end times,” but few could explain them in detail, especially with so many divergent views out there. Let”s take

a look at the term “last days.” According to the Bible, the “last days” officially began 50 days after Jesus Christ was resurrected. While the Jews were celebrating Pentecost, the Holy Spirit, like flames of fire, came upon the group of about 120 believers who had gathered. The Apostle Peter tried his best to explain to the crowd what had just happened. In doing so, he quoted the prophet Joel as he stated:
The “last days,” therefore, began with the coming of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost.¬† Since we”re obviously in the last days, what part of the last days are we in? I believe we are in the last of the last days, a period also referred to as the “end times.” The biblical term most resembling “end times” is found, among other places, in Matthew 24:3.
And as He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, “Tell us, when will these things be, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?”
Jesus responds by describing the events that will happen in what is called the Tribulation, also known as the time of Jacob”s Trouble, since it”s primarily about what Israel will go through during the 7-year period leading up to Christ”s Second Coming. The point is that when we start seeing the things Jesus described, we know the “end” is near. Well, we”re seeing them. We are approaching the “end times” and are in the last of the “last days.”

Some people seem to be more interested the details of the last days than they are in the implications. If we are truly in the last days, we all should be doing some serious analyzing of our lives. Knowing what to expect is one thing. It is quite another to be ready, and that”s the real issue. The fact that biblical prophecies are being played out before our eyes should cause us to take the book a little more seriously. After all, no prophecy from the entire Bible has ever been proven to be false. If we”ve never taken the book seriously, is it because we really don”t believe it, or because we don”t want to be held accountable for our actions? We tend to think that if we don”t acknowledge the book, its contents will, somehow, not apply to us. I know from personal experience that the fear of accountability is at the root of most biblical rejection. Please be honest and think about it. The God of Israel, the God of the Bible has canada drugstores americans viagra border made a way for us to be totally prepared for the last days.¬†
