The Nice, France Attack and the Gun Control Debate plus much more.
IT’S NEWS TO ME
For the past several weeks I have been on a mission trip to Eastern Europe and have been unable to post my usual news report on Saturday. Now that I have returned, here are some of the news stories you probably haven’t seen or heard. I’m assuming that the violence against police officers in the U.S. and the truck attack in Nice, France have been adequately covered by other news sources.
SETTING OUR MINDS ON THINGS ABOVE
Despite the assurances from our President that violence has been reduced under his watch, our eyes and our brains tell a different story. Every day it seems like we are moving faster and faster toward some kind of upheaval that will change everything. Those who have both feet in the world and are ideologically leftists will mock such assessments for the simple reason that they are spiritually unequipped to understand the true nature of our world.
During my recent trip abroad, I spent some time in Budapest, Hungary, a city that has experienced more than its share of devastation, rebuilding, and more devastation, followed by more rebuilding. You would think that in light of what the city has endured at the hands of dictators and foreign enemies, its people would be keenly tuned in to the politics and current events of the world and especially their region. According to one cab driver, this is not the case. In his view, the people of Budapest are consumed with their own lives and are largely oblivious to what’s going on around them.
If his assessment is true, it shouldn’t surprise us. The Bible says that the transition into the last days will be just like the days of Noah, with wickedness abounding while the people are going about their business as if nothing is wrong. Budapest is not unique in this regard. The cab driver’s assessment describes the U.S, as well. Those of us with “eyes to see” and “ears to hear” must remain vigilant and not be lulled to sleep by the naysayers. The primary purpose of prophecy is to prepare us so we will be ready for what’s coming because we have recognized the signs. Now, more than ever, we must be seeking the Lord and relying on the Holy Spirit to give us wisdom to know what God would have us do. Let’s not be distracted by the world or the enemy. We must stay the course.
