This issue compares Glenn Beck”s “Restoring Honor” movement to the end times teachings of the Mormon Church.
SINCE YOU ASKED
Building on my recent article that looked at some basic Mormon beliefs, today we”ll shed some light on the role of the Constitution in Mormon theology. As I have previously stated, I have been a Glenn Beck fan, but his religious beliefs have raised some very bright red flags in my mind.
Let”s look at a little Mormon history. Ezra Taft Benson was a former Mormon President. He represented the Church”s official position when he made the following statements (in the 1840s):
“I reverence the Constitution of the United States as a sacred document. To me its words are akin to the revelations of God, for God has placed His stamp of approval upon it. I testify that the God of heaven sent some of His choicest spirits to lay the foundation of this government, and He has now sent other choice spirits to help preserve it.”
“We are fast approaching that moment prophesied by Joseph Smith when he said, “Even this nation will be on the very verge of crumbling to pieces and tumbling to the ground, and when the Constitution is upon the brink of ruin, this people will be the staff upon which the nation shall lean, and they shall bear the Constitution away from the very verge of destruction.””
“I [Benson] have faith that the Constitution will be saved as prophesied by Joseph Smith….It will be saved by enlightened members of this Church-among
others-men and women who understand and abide the principles of the Constitution.”

Let”s look at these statements a little closer. The first statement, which equates the Constitution to the Word of God, has the effect of devaluing the Word. As good as it was, our Constitution was the result of the minds of men. If it was a “sacred document, why were so many Amendments necessary? And who were these choice spirits? I think he was implying that they were the spirit children of God (who was once a man) and His goddess wives (basic Mormon theology). I wonder if Glenn thinks he is one of the choice spirits sent to preserve our Constitution. The previous quotes seem to support this view.
According to some former Mormons, all Mormons are familiar with these prophecies by Joseph Smith. They also are convinced that the “enlightened members” of the Mormon Church will be instrumental in restoring America”s honor. Do you think it”s a coincidence that Glenn called his recent rally “Restoring America” Honor”? Mormonism has historically given its own “unique” meaning to commonly used terms. For example, the Mormon versions of God and Jesus are not the same as their biblical counterparts. I”m sensing that Glenn”s version of America”s honor is more tied to Mormon teaching than American patriotism.
Mormons see a direct connection between the founding of our nation, our government, and the restoration of the church (the Mormon Church). The Mormon Bible actually claims that Jesus declared that America would become the “Lord”s latter-day base of operations for His restored church.”
Glenn Beck has been instrumental in exposing those who are clearly out to destroy us. He stands alone today as a voice sounding the alarm. This is why it pains me to sound my own alarm. He has said that 80% of his life revolves around the Mormon Temple. He calls for the President to be forthcoming about his true religion while being very disingenuous about his own.
